Shine On, Harvest Moon…in Sedona!
I don’t know about you, but I often wake up in the morning with a song lyric playing in my head. Sometimes, it’s just a single line or even a couple of words. Always, though, it carries as strong a message for me as a dream might.
This morning, as I drifted into consciousness, what I heard was the first line of the refrain of the song “Homeland” as sung by the group Celtic Woman.
What makes that particularly significant is that this is the morning of the harvest full moon. And it was on the morning of the harvest full moon 29 years ago that I was first lured into Sedona, ending the 90 days of journeying that my then dog, Roxy, and I had embarked on from Toronto the previous June.
At the time, I’d known only that we were heading vaguely west with everything I owned jammed into a Dodge Caravan. Sedona for me was nothing but a pretty picture on a CD case. And a new life there, let alone in America, was so far beyond the reaches of my conscious imagining that, well, I couldn’t imagine it.
Yet, that’s what happened.
Now, having been lured in and nudged out three times since then, I’m back in Sedona for a fourth. And today, I woke up with a very eloquent, musical reminder that I’m home.

To be clear, you can take the boy out of Canada, but you can’t take Canada out of the boy. I may be a US citizen now, but I’m also, still, a Canadian. Yet Sedona is home. Not because it’s on my driver’s license, but because it’s in my heart.
The last line of Celtic Woman’s “Homeland” refrain is, “I have a home.”
I’m home.
